ToroGRUE

Just back from visiting Toronto with Graydancer for a GRUE.  Had a great time at everything from the meet and great Friday to the event itself all day Saturday and "breakfast" pancakes Sunday afternoon!    Nuit Blanche was Saturday night and lots of kinky rope people were tying and being tied in a store window!   It was a blast seeing the reactions of such a wide varity of people to this thing that we do :)    Had an especially wonderful time with [info]troismarteaux and really look forward to getting to see him again!

I'll be attending (only as a voyeur) the Midwest Bellydance Challenge tomorrow in Chicago, IL. I couldn't participate this year since I'm recovering from my breast reduction surgery.   Hope to be competing next year!

Recovery has been going well... now just going nuts with boredom! I'm feeling pretty good but still not up to a lot of work around the house, etc. And a computer can keep me entertained for only so long! Looking forward to sharing my new body next time I see everyone!

Still recovering. Got the drains out today. Had a friend over and she gave me a massage (legs, etc). Feeling pretty good and relaxed. Going to try to make it to my dance workshop for a little bit to say hi.

I'm home and recovering from my surgery. Not in too much pain thanks to the meds. I look kind of funny with the drain bags pinned to the compression bandages. The drains come out Thursday.

at Benjamin Harrison House

at Benjamin Harrison House, originally uploaded by slavephaedra.

In Indianapolis today went to the 23rd president's house. Also went to James Whitcomb Riley's house. Rumor has it that I'm related to him through my maternal great-grandmother's side of my family. Have to look into that. Stopped in Ft Wayne, IN tonight. On to Detroit, MI tomorrow. Home stretch of the trip.

Went to St Louis botanical gardens on Thursday June 26. Lots of beautiful flowers and a wonderful Japanese garden. On to Indianapolis on Friday.

June 24- Visited the Steamboat Arabia, sank in the Missouri river in 1853, dug up in a corn field in 1988. Recommend this to anyone interested in American history.

Topeka, KS, originally uploaded by slavephaedra.

Road trip-ing through the midwest with my mom. Saw some great old houses and yards in Topeka, KS. Went on to KC to see the Colorado Rockies play the KC Royals. We lost :( Kind of stormy today, so we'll have to find indoor stuff.. or get wet!

So why does belly dance get laughed off the stage in the US?   From what I saw, she's ok, but I know many much more talented (and as good looking!) belly dancers out there.

I'm dancing at Med Hookah tonight, so maybe I have a bit more encouragement now.

1. Think of the first word that comes to mind when you think of me.

2. Go to Google Images and search for that word.

3. Reply to this post with one of the pictures on the first page of results (don't tell me the word).

4. Put this in your own journal so that I can do the same.

Got back from a belly dance workshop in South Bend, IN.   Had a performance in the show Saturday night that really went well.   The applause really stunned us.   My favorite comment from a layperson was "it was nice to see a group that looks like theygm practice!"   Not really sure to take it as "we rocked"  or   "those other groups sucked!".    Since a great deal of troupe belly dance really does look very  amateur, it could be either.   I'll lean towards "it rocked!"  and post an update when I get to see video.  I might even post video!

Con-drop

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Spent almost all of today in bed.  On top of the post-Shibaricon con-drop, my allergies are going nuts and I'm going cold turkey on soda/caffeine.  Helped a friend clean her apartment tonight since she is moving out.  Got to get started on "real" stuff again tomorrow.

Got home from cleaning to find my Master had sliced his finger open while working on his boat, so he's off to the emergency room to get stitches.

Oh, and I finally added a text plan to my cell phone since I have so many more people to text these days  :)

Shibaricon 08

Had a great time at Shibaricon 2008 in Chicago this last weekend!   I helped out with live music for a wedding, performed in several acts in [info]graydancer's cabaret, and helped [info]jimitatu do a Japanese Tea Ceremony.  I also had a wonderful time (almost all of my time :) with [info]troismarteaux.   Now, just have to recover from con-drop and look forward to the next one I'll be going to..  Thunder in the Mountains.

The joys of group dance pieces.   I have a performance tomorrow night at a belly dance workshop/fund raiser.    Choreographed a great trio piece and we were going to rock the house.   Murphy's Law:   one of the dancers is sick.... so introducing the Bint el Mona duet piece with no practice time!   Not exactly how I was planning on rocking the house.

On a happier note, Graydancer and I will be doing Dr. Sketchy's this sunday.  2-5 pm at High Noon Saloon.
